Effective July 1, 2020, healthcare practitioners, medical students, or any other student receiving training as a healthcare practitioner will be prohibited from performing pelvic examinations without the written consent of the patient or patient’s legal representative. Included is a copy of a legal summary that the Florida Medical Association put together on SB 698. Please take a moment to review and get a better understand of this new law.
Also included, is a copy of a template pelvic exam consent form that you may be interested in using in your practice. This template should meet the needs to comply with the new law requiring written consent for pelvic exams that takes effect this Wednesday, July 1, 2020. If you have specific questions or concerns regarding the template consent form, I urge you to consult competent legal counsel.
